Petra Monaco

Originally from Germany, Petra has called central Virginia home since 1993. She lives near the Blue Ridge Parkway with her partner.

A self-taught pyrography artist, Petra discovered wood-burning by accident while experimenting with bead designs for a macramé project, and never looked back.

Her work is deeply inspired by the landscapes she explores on foot, especially along the Skyline Drive and Appalachian trails. Petra sketches directly onto wood, often referencing her photos or memories from hikes. Her style ranges from realistic to whimsical, capturing everything from native wildlife to animals around the world. Each piece reflects her connection to nature, curiosity, and a quiet, determined sense of adventure.
